Make your own Music!

In school you have been busy practicing your flutes, trumpets & clarinets with the Music department (hopefully we can embed some of your music soon – ask Mr Smart & Mr Howe if it is possible!). If you want to compose or make your own Music, here are a couple of sites for you…:

  1. Piano Etudes: seems pretty complicated BUT you can produce some great professional sounding Music!
  2. Jango: I’ve already shared this one with you – AMAZING site where you can make your own radio station AND share with others! Here is a radio station that I quickly put together inspired by Coldplay and others…!
  3. mp3 cutter: a great way to cut clips from songs especially if you have presentations to do for school projects…!! :)
  4. drumbot: useful if you are a drummer or guitarist or if you want background drums while playing another instrument!
  5. television tunes: find and download almost any TV theme tune…
  6. Jamstudio: a great way to compose your own music online!
  7. Make Music: a more kid-friendly site by TVOkids

Try them out and share them with the class by sending your creations to gwagrade5@gmail.com…! ALSO – share any other cool Music related sites by commenting below! :)

Welcome back!

Hope you all had a wonderful break!

An exciting time for the G5 students – we have started our culminating event of Elementary School: the PYP mini-Exhibition…!

Some of the tools that our Grade 5′s could make use of (hint hint g5dragons!) include:

  • video reflections: much better than having to write everything down!
  • Google Custom Search: very useful and MUST HAVE tool for all educators – teachers try making your own here NOW! Or try out our energy custom search on the sidebar to the right →
  • Brainpop: basic overview of hundreds of topics explained by an animated Tim & Moby. Currently we are working with a free trial (check with teacher for username & password – although you probably can guess…!)
  • Mindmeister: an excellent collaborative online mind-mapping tool – perfect way to brainstorm on a topic over the internet
  • written reflections: I’m sorry – we had to! BUT this MAY be more fun than you think… we are trying to get them onto your own blog space on the GLG (GEMS Learning Gateway)

and much MUCH more :)

Tagul – even better than Wordle…?

See a Tagul word cloud below – the great thing with this for YOU (something that wordle doesn’t let you do) is that it let’s YOU search the definition of the word in google by just clicking on the words below!

Can anyone find any other ways to use this ‘cool tool’? Send any examples to gwagrade5@gmail.com and we can share…

Useful energy resources!

Here is a webquest where you can find out information about energy and energy sources… This is a great way of finding out more information on your own!

Another useful resource that we have set up for you is this Energy Custom Search. We have selected only the best and mot relevant sites for you to search through – aren’t we GREAT…?!?! :D

Over the past week, we have been reflecting on the G5 Camp 2010. Below is Jang Woo’s ‘animoto‘ that he made – does anyone else want to share? Send me the ‘embed code’!

SmART stARTs for ART :)

A few of you played with ‘this is sand‘ – the addictive sand patterns site that I shared with Jack and he passed on to you (thank you Jack!)… Here are a few more VERY cool ways to start some art online – yes, SOME of us need the help of technology – I think I am the world’s WORST artist! Tell me what you think of the following sites – and suggest some more!

  • HARMONY: This is amazing and if you look at some of his other projects at his blog I think you will be VERY impressed…!
  • FLOCKDRAW: A great way to collaborate and share your drawings and designs with others
  • LIVEBRUSH: Wow – some pretty cool pieces of art submitted by others – can YOU? I think you need to download it but it’s free :)
  • VISCOSITY: This is another artwork generator with lots of potential
  • BOMOMO: This makes random art EASY to create – I don’t know whether my art looks great because of the program or just because I am an art GENIUS…!
  • ARTPAD: This is great because you replay your brush strokes so others can see exactly how you created your ‘masterpiece’
  • WORDLE/IMAGECHEF: These are two that will always make the list – creating art and visuals with words – great stuff!

Which one do you like best? What sites have I missed…?

PLEASE SHARE (email to gwagrade5@gmail.com) any of your cool pieces of art that you make with these programs!

**The G5 DRAGONS will pick and post winners on Tuesday 23rd March…!**

Helping our KG buddies!

In order to help our KG buddies with their research on sea & beach animals, use the Custom Search below! Hopefully this will make it easier to find relevant information!

A custom search is a great way to help other people find information from great sites that you have selected…

If you find any other sites which are useful, post them as a comment and we can add them!
